How To Start Your Texas Driving Career

In part 2 of our series on Trip Planning for Truck Driving School Students we are looking at the basic principals needed to track your trips. In truck school this issue is discussed and often called the key to making more money. We wanted to provide a few tips to help you track your trips so that you can meet the goals of a profitable well planned trip.



I was transferred to the active reserve for the next six years. I lived in Rockaway Beach, NY and I was assigned to Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn. When I reported to Fort Hamilton I explained that I lived in Rockaway and Fort Tilden in Rockaway was just minutes from my home. Could I be transferred there which would save a lot of driving time. When considering a job ask how often the fleet trucks are replaced. Newer trucks can be more fuel efficient, and have less wear and tear damage on them. There is nothing worse for a truck driver than being stuck in a small town waiting for a simple repair to be made.

3) You will need to enroll in a local Truck driving school. There are many schools available all over the country. The best place to start would be at your local community college, which may have a program for you to join. Driving a truck, especially an 18-wheeler is not something that you can just begin to do. You do need practice, and the school will help you with that process. The school will also get you ready to sit for your CDL or commercial copyright exam. School is not required to receive your CDL, but the test is much easier if you have had the training a good school can provide.

For example Chicago is a big city to get through. From 6:00 am in the morning to about 8:00 pm at night you will have a lot of traffic. 3:00 pm rush hour begins and doesn't settle down until 8:00 pm; most big cities are like this. If you are going to be going through at rush hour you're best bet is to wait at a truck stop for a few hours and take a nap.
